About this course

This CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to Perform Dogging course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely perform dogging work in accordance with WHS legislation and industry standards within the mining, civil and construction industries.

The Following Topics Are Covered Within This Dogging Course:

  • Plan and prepare dogging work activities
  • Select, inspect and use lifting gear and associated equipment
  • Determine load weight, centre of gravity and load stability
  • Apply appropriate slinging techniques for various load types
  • Direct crane and hoist movements using standard hand, whistle and radio signals
  • Apply hazard identification and risk control measures
  • Complete post-operational procedures and secure equipment

The Dogging (DG) High Risk Work Licence authorises the holder to sling loads and direct crane and hoist operators during lifting operations.

If you are required to perform dogging work, you must hold a current High Risk Work Licence – Dogging (DG) issued by the relevant WHS Regulator.

Pre-requisite

There are no formal training pre-requisites for this course. Participants must meet the enrolment, identification and language, literacy and numeracy requirements outlined on this page.

Training requirements

Enrolment Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of assessment
  • Provide 100 points of identification
    (WorkSafe QLD ID requirements)
  • Hold a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier)
    (Click here to obtain a USI)
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in plain English to a level sufficient to safely participate in training and assessment
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform basic calculations relevant to load estimation and rigging tasks

Requirements on the Day of Training & Assessment

  • Original 100 points of identification
    (WorkSafe QLD ID requirements)
  • Steel-capped or composite safety boots
  • Long-sleeved high-visibility shirt (high-visibility vests available for loan)
  • Long work pants
  • Hard hat (limited supply available for loan)

Momentum High Risk Training will provide all required training materials and stationery.

  • Participants may bring their own lunch (fridges and crib facilities available); or
  • Multiple lunch options are located nearby at the Mackay Harbour

Experience & Competency Pathway

Where a participant is identified as requiring additional experience prior to assessment, further supervised workplace-based training may be recommended.

Training activities may be recorded in a structured logbook under the supervision of a competent person. Once sufficient experience and competency have been demonstrated, the participant may return to Momentum High Risk Training to complete formal assessment.

Course outcomes

Certification & Licensing

Upon successful completion, participants will be issued a
Statement of Attainment for CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to Perform Dogging
by Momentum High Risk Training (RTO No. 46410).

A Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) will be provided once competency has been achieved.

To obtain a High Risk Work Licence – Dogging (DG), participants must apply directly to

WorkSafe Queensland

within 60 days of completing assessment.

The CAS must be retained as proof of assessment until the HRWL is issued by the regulator.
