This Elevating Work Platform (EWP) training course in Mackay equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a boom-type elevating work platform with a boom length of 11 metres or more within mining, construction, ports and industrial environments.

Successful completion enables eligible participants to apply for a High Risk Work Licence (WP class) through WorkSafe Queensland.

Course Topics Covered

  • Plan work tasks and identify hazards
  • Prepare the EWP and work area for operation
  • Operate a boom-type elevating work platform safely and effectively
  • Shut down, secure equipment and complete post-operational tasks

NEW 2-Day Format

This new two-day course format is designed to suit persons with previous industry exposure and/or workplace experience. Students with experience working within construction, mining, sugar, transport, warehousing, maintenance or similar industries often already possess a general understanding of workplace safety, hazards, risk controls and safe work practices, allowing training to be delivered in a more streamlined and efficient format.

The course includes both training and assessment over two full days face-to-face at our training facility. Additional learning support will still be provided where required.

Training Days Focus On:

  • EWP theory training and presentation delivery
  • Practical EWP operation
  • Safely working at heights and with relevant equipment
  • Hazard identification and workplace safety application
  • Safe setup and shutdown procedures
  • Formal knowledge and practical assessment

This structured delivery model ensures maximum hands-on machine time while maintaining full compliance with assessment requirements.

Ideal For:

  • Workers that have experience in heavy industry, mining, Ports, warehousing, workshops or Sugar industries
  • Persons operating EWP/Scissors lifts or similar plant without formal evidence for RPL
  • Individuals requiring a compliant pathway to High Risk Work Licence assessment

If you are brand new to heavy industries or have English as a 2nd language, you may want to consider our 3-day Standard EWP course or completing pre-learning material.

If you are required to operate a boom-type elevating work platform over 11 metres, you must hold a current
High Risk Work Licence – WP.
