About this course

This Elevating Work Platform (EWP) training course in Mackay equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a boom-type elevating work platform with a boom length of 11 metres or more within mining, construction, ports and industrial environments.

Successful completion enables eligible participants to apply for a High Risk Work Licence (WP class) through WorkSafe Queensland.

2-Day Intensive Format

Prior to attendance, participants complete a structured pre-course preparation component. This includes access to the training presentation, learning materials, instructional videos and workbook. The completed workbook must be submitted for review and approval before progressing to practical training.

Who This Course Is Suitable For

This course is suitable for individuals working within heavy industry, mining, ports or construction environments who operate boom-type EWPs but do not hold formal evidence required for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

If you are required to operate a boom-type elevating work platform over 11 metres, you must hold a current
High Risk Work Licence – WP.

Training requirements

Enrolment Requirements

The following are required to commence enrolment in this EWP (WP) High Risk Work Licence course in Queensland:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of training
  • Provide 100 points of identification
    (WorkSafe QLD ID requirements)
  • Hold a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier)
    (Obtain a USI here)
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in plain English to a level sufficient to safely participate in training and assessment

Requirements on the Day of Training

  • Original 100 points of identification (as per WorkSafe QLD requirements)
  • Steel-capped or composite safety boots
  • Long-sleeved high-visibility shirt (vests available for loan)
  • Long work pants
  • Hard hat (limited supply available for loan)

What We Provide

  • Access to fridges and crib facilities for personal lunch storage
  • Multiple food outlets located nearby at Mackay Harbour

Inexperienced Workers

Where a participant is considered inexperienced, additional time may be required to fully develop the necessary knowledge and practical skills prior to assessment.

In these circumstances, the trainer/assessor may recommend further workplace-based training under the supervision of a competent person. Training activities must be recorded in a logbook.

Once the required experience and competency have been achieved, the participant may return to Momentum High Risk Training to complete the final assessment.

Course outcomes

You will receive a Statement of Attainment in TLILIC0005 – Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (EWP over 11 metres) issued by Momentum High Risk Training (RTO No: 46410).

Once you have been deemed competent, a Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) will be emailed to you.

To apply for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL – WP), you must lodge an application with WorkSafe QLD within 60 days of completing your assessment. Please retain your Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) as evidence until your HRWL card is received by mail.
