About this course

This Basic Rigging (RB) High Risk Work Licence course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely perform basic rigging work in accordance with legislative requirements and industry standards within the mining, civil, and construction industries.

This unit specifies the outcomes required to perform basic rigging work associated with:

  • Movement of plant & equipment
  • Steel erections
  • Hoists
  • Safety net and static lines
  • Placement of precast concrete
  • The perimeter of safety screens and shutters
  • Cantilever crane loading platforms

Participants will be required to plan work activities, select and inspect rigging equipment, set up tasks, erect and dismantle structures and plant, and apply safe work practices throughout the process.

Note: To lawfully perform basic rigging work, individuals must hold a current High Risk Work Licence – Basic Rigging (RB) issued by the relevant WHS Regulator.

If you are required to perform Basic Rigging work, you will need to hold a current High Risk Work Licence in Basic Rigging RB.

Training requirements

To Commence Enrolment, Participants Must:

Meet the minimum LLN requirements identified through the pre-enrolment LLN screening

The following are required on the day of training and assessment:

  • 100 points of identification (Click here for Work Safe QLD’s ID requirements)
  • Steel capped/composite boots
  • Long-sleeved, high visibility shirt (high visibility vests available for loan)
  • Long pants
  • Hard hat (some are available for loan)
  • Momentum High Risk Training will supply all training materials and stationery.Facilities
    • Fridges and crib rooms are available for use at MHRT training facility; or
    • Various lunch options are available close by at the Mackay Harbour

    Prior to enrolment, all participants are required to complete a short Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) screening questionnaire.

      • The LLN screening is used to confirm that participants have the minimum LLN skills required to safely undertake training and assessment for this course, including the ability to:

    Read and interpret written safety information, procedures, and signage

    Communicate effectively in spoken and written English

    Perform basic calculations and measurements relevant to rigging tasks

    The screening consists of a small number of job-relevant questions and is not designed to be a formal test or a barrier to enrolment.

        • Where the screening identifies that a participant may require additional support, Momentum High Risk Training will discuss available reasonable adjustments, support strategies, or alternative training options prior to enrolment to ensure the participant can safely and effectively participate in the course.

    Inexperienced workers

    Where a participant is identified as an inexperienced worker, additional training time may be required before assessment to ensure competency is achieved.

    In such cases, the Trainer/Assessor may recommend:

  • Further workplace-based training under the supervision of a competent person

    Completion of structured training activities recorded in a logbook

    Once the required experience and skills have been obtained, the participant may return to Momentum High Risk Training to undertake assessment.

Course outcomes

On successful completion, participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment in CPCCLRG3001 Licence to perform rigging basic level by Momentum High Risk Training (RTO No. 46410).

A Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) will be provided upon being deemed competent.

To obtain a High Risk Work Licence (RB), participants must apply directly to WorkSafe Queensland within 60 days of completing assessment.
The CAS must be retained as evidence until the HRWL is issued by the regulator.
