About this course

This Elevating Work Platform (EWP) training course in Mackay equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a boom-type elevating work platform with a boom length of 11 metres or more within mining, construction, ports and industrial environments.

Successful completion enables eligible participants to apply for a High Risk Work Licence (WP class) through WorkSafe Queensland.

Licensing Requirement

If you are required to operate a boom-type elevating work platform with a boom length of 11 metres or more, you must hold a current High Risk Work Licence – WP.

Pre-requisite

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course. Participants must meet the enrolment and identification requirements outlined on this page.

Site requirement note: Some mine sites may require participants to hold RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights (or equivalent) prior to attending site-based work. Please confirm site entry requirements with your employer or principal contractor.

Training requirements

Enrolment Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of assessment
  • Provide 100 points of identification
    (WorkSafe QLD ID requirements)
  • Hold a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier)
    (Click here to obtain a USI)
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in plain English to a level sufficient to safely participate in training and assessment

Requirements on the Day of Training & Assessment

  • Original 100 points of identification
    (WorkSafe QLD ID requirements)
  • Steel-capped or composite safety boots
  • Long-sleeved high-visibility shirt (high-visibility vests available for loan)
  • Long work pants
  • Hard hat (limited supply available for loan on the day)

Momentum High Risk Training provides all required training materials and stationery.

  • Participants may bring their own lunch (fridges and crib rooms are available); or
  • Multiple lunch options are available nearby at Mackay Harbour

Inexperienced Workers

Where a participant is considered an inexperienced worker, additional time may be required to fully develop the necessary knowledge and practical skills prior to assessment.

In these circumstances, the trainer/assessor may recommend further workplace-based training under the supervision of a competent person. Training activities must be recorded in a logbook. Once the required experience and competency have been achieved, the participant may return to Momentum High Risk Training to complete the final assessment.

Course outcomes

Certification & Licensing

Upon successful completion and being deemed competent, you will receive a
Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0005 – Licence to Operate a Boom-Type Elevating Work Platform (Boom Length 11 Metres or More)
issued by Momentum High Risk Training (RTO 46410).

A Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) will also be issued via email. This document is required when applying for your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).

To apply for your High Risk Work Licence (WP class), you must contact
WorkSafe QLD
within 60 days of completing your assessment.

Please retain your Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) as evidence of assessment until your HRWL card is issued.
