What is RPL (in plain English)?
RPL recognises the skills you already have. Your work experience (paid, unpaid, site‑based) is assessed against the Australian unit(s) of competency.
Who it’s for
- Kiwis with site time in dogging, rigging, cranes, EWP, forklift, telehandler, gantry/overhead crane, scaffolding, etc.
- New arrivals to Australia looking for mining, construction, or warehousing work.
- Anyone with the right evidence who’d rather fast‑track via RPL instead of sitting through full training.
What you can RPL with us
We can RPL any HRWL unit or RII competency on our scope. Need something outside our scope? No stress — we partner with other RTOs to keep it simple.
See our full scope at: www.momentumhrt.com.au.
How it works (step‑by‑step)
- Contact us — Email or call with your background and tickets. We’ll give you straight advice.
- Apply — Complete our RPL Application Form. Management will review what you’ve provided and get back to you quickly.
- Assessment plan — We’ll contact you very quickly to outline your RPL plan.
- Evidence submission — You provide the evidence we ask for (see checklist below but we’ll provide a detailed one for you).
- Gap‑check — If anything’s missing, we’ll set you knowledge questions, short workbooks, or a practical to cover the gaps. We’ll even provide learner guides to help.
- Results & next steps — You’ll get clear feedback and guidance on the fastest way to secure your HRWL/RII.
Note: HRWL assessments are conducted in English. Interpreters are not allowed for the licence knowledge test.
Evidence checklist (send what’s relevant)
Aim for evidence that is valid, sufficient, authentic, and recent. Examples:
- Statements of Attainment (last 5 years), site authorisations, VOCs.
- Job descriptions, letters of offer, signed/dated logbooks, photos/videos of you at work.
- Supervisor/company references, performance reviews, resume, work samples.
Pro tip: A strong mix of evidence beats one single document every time.
Where will any practical happen?
Most RPLs require a practical component. This can be done at our training facility in Mackay or at your worksite if equipment and conditions are suitable.
Credit Transfer vs RPL
- Credit Transfer — You already hold the exact Australian unit. We transfer it straight across (no re‑training needed).
- RPL — You hold the experience (e.g., from NZ). We map it to the Aussie unit and fill any small gaps with targeted training/assessment.
Enrolment admin (the boring but important bits)
- You’ll need a USI (Unique Student Identifier) for nationally recognised training. (If exempt, results won’t show on the national transcript.)
- We only recognise whole units, and only those on our scope or with approved RTO partners.
- Our assessors follow the national standards for assessment and the rules of evidence.
👉 Create your USI here: www.usi.gov.au
If you don’t quite hit the mark first go
No worries. You’ll get detailed feedback and, if needed, extra training and another shot at assessment.
