About this course

The Vehicle Loading Crane (VLC) course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to safely operate a VLC for use within the mining construction and general construction industries.

The following topics are covered within this vehicle loading crane course:

  • You will learn how to plan for the work/task including assessing the work area, ground suitability and appropriate paths for operating
  • You will learn how to prepare for work/task by implementing risk controls, pre-start checks on VLC, setting up the VLC correctly, stabilising the VLC, conducting operational checks and assessing weather and work environments.
  • You will perform designated lifts using lifting equipment/gear, conduct test lifts, transfer loads and learn how to move the crane in a safe manner, disconnect and inspect lifting gear.
  • Pack up the VLC including boom/job, lifting gear, applying the motion locks and brakes, correctly storing the stabilisers and securing crane in a safe manner
TLILIC0024 Licence to operate a vehicle loading crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above) is developed for workers who operate a VLC mounted on a vehicle for the purpose of loading and unloading such a vehicle, including load estimation and slinging techniques to move a load

If you are required to operate a VLC over 10 metre/tonne,  you will need to hold a current High Risk Work Licence – Vehicle Loading Crane CV. This is a nationally recognised vehicle loading crane training course.

Operators that hold a higher class of crane licence (C2 / C6 / C1 / CO) already encompass the CV licence.
