About this course

This TLILIC0024 – Licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above) course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a vehicle loading crane in accordance with WHS legislation and industry standards.

Vehicle Loading Crane (CV) High Risk Work Licence holders are authorised to operate a vehicle loading crane with a rated capacity of 10 metre tonnes or greater, commonly used within the mining, construction, transport and heavy industry sectors.

The Following Topics Are Covered:

  • Plan and prepare vehicle loading crane operations
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and identify hazards
  • Set up crane and stabilisers correctly
  • Lift, move and place loads safely
  • Use lifting gear and apply load estimation principles
  • Apply communication methods and exclusion zones
  • Shut down, secure and complete post-operational procedures

If you are required to operate a vehicle loading crane with a capacity of 10 metre tonnes or greater, you must hold a current High Risk Work Licence – CV issued by the relevant WHS Regulator.

Pre-requisite

There are no formal training pre-requisites for this course. Participants must meet the enrolment, identification and language, literacy and numeracy requirements outlined below.

Training requirements

Enrolment Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of assessment
  • Provide 100 points of identification
    (WorkSafe QLD ID requirements)
  • Hold a valid USI (Unique Student Identifier)
    (Obtain a USI here)
  • Possess basic English language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Be able to complete calculations and formulas relevant to rigging tasks
  • Meet the minimum LLN requirements identified through the pre-enrolment LLN screening

Requirements on the Day of Training & Assessment

  • Original 100 points of identification (as per WorkSafe QLD requirements)
  • Steel-capped or composite safety boots
  • Long-sleeved high-visibility shirt (vests available for loan)
  • Long work pants
  • Hard hat (limited supply available for loan)

Momentum High Risk Training provides all required training materials and stationery.

  • Fridges and crib facilities are available at the MHRT training facility; or
  • Multiple food outlets are located nearby at Mackay Harbour

Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

Prior to enrolment, all participants are required to complete a short Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) screening questionnaire.

The LLN screening confirms that participants have the minimum skills required to safely undertake training and assessment, including the ability to:

  • Read and interpret written safety information, procedures and signage
  • Communicate effectively in spoken and written English
  • Perform calculations and measurements relevant to rigging tasks

Where the screening identifies that a participant may require additional support, Momentum High Risk Training will discuss reasonable adjustments, support strategies, or alternative training options prior to enrolment to ensure safe and effective participation.

Inexperienced Workers

Where a participant is identified as an inexperienced worker, additional training time may be required before assessment to ensure competency is achieved.

In such cases, the Trainer/Assessor may recommend:

  • Further workplace-based training under the supervision of a competent person
  • Completion of structured training activities recorded in a logbook

Once the required experience and skills have been obtained, the participant may return to Momentum High Risk Training to undertake formal assessment.

Course outcomes

Certification & Licensing

Upon successful completion, participants will be issued a
Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0024 – Licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above)
by Momentum High Risk Training (RTO No. 46410).

A Candidate Assessment Summary (CAS) will be provided once competency has been achieved.

To obtain a High Risk Work Licence – Vehicle Loading Crane (CV), participants must apply directly to

WorkSafe Queensland

within 60 days of completing assessment.

The CAS must be retained as evidence of assessment until the HRWL card is issued by the regulator.
